That’s when I met my mom for the first time.” Larisa speaks no English, and Jenna didn’t speak any Russian (she is learning the language now and has just mastered reading the Russian alphabet). “I was quite an anxious mess,” says Jenna, “but it went about as well as it could go. It was a very intimate moment, the first time we met. Natalia and Kristina were translating between the two of us. Everyone was kind of in shock. She just was looking at me and holding me.”
